Waking is an experimental short that explores the boundaries of the perceived reality moments before waking. During the table section into the couch scene, a live performance component occurs. Although it is a minute of inaction, the live portion isn’t necessary for viewing, but it would consist of acting that deals with the questioning of ones’ reality or a luma key mix in of film samples using a video mixing board—the decision between the two depends on the venue, access to workable equipment and the amount of helping hands. Lighting continues to be an issue as it is difficult to get keys, fills and spots without spending a bundle. I checked out cameras to film this and had different ones that lead to a coloration issue that I need to still fix in post.
The music is composed of samples taken from In the beginning by Lonnie Linston Smith Prepare Yourself by George Duke—the remaining work is original.
